In The Beginning . . .

Dog's Zen was founded by serial entrepreneur and dog lover Christopher Spence. After graduating from Trinity University with a degree in Business Administration, I attended St. Mary's Law School in San Antonio. During my first year of law school, I faced many challenges: personal tragedies, cardiac problems, was diagnosed with depressive disorder and dealing with coming out to my friends and family. It was easy to feel defeated and lost. That is when I found my best friend and partner, Skyler.

Through all of the days of darkness, there was always one person happy to see me, no matter how bad my day had been. Every day I would come home to find my best friend wagging his tail, begging for love and treats. He forced me to be social when I wanted to lock myself in a dark bedroom, he made me laugh when life seemed too scary, he made me take breaks from studying to take him on walks. Without Skyler, I would have never made it through Law School. I would never be where I am today without his love and compassion.

Today, despite being 13 years old, most people still mistake Skyler for a puppy. Over the last 13 years together, we have grown and learned that nothing is more important than my friends, family, and each other. In our free time, you can find us playing in a park, watching Ted Talks or Animal Planet together and enjoying treats, ice cream for me and a Greenies for him.

I designed and built Dog's Zen to model the exact place I would want to take Skyler. I figured if I created something for my best friend and followed my passion, I would build something that others would love as well. It is my hope that your experience at Dog's Zen is as great for you and your best friend as it is for Skyler and me.
